Extension of a fee-based work permit
In the Republic of Kazakhstan fee-based work permits are usually issued for a term of one year. However, when necessary, the term of a work permit may be extended, although maximum twice.
A person applying for extension of a work permit shall, at least thirty calendar days prior to the expiry of the current work permit, file with the competent authority the following documents:
- Application form;
- Justification for extension of a work permit;
- HR local content;
- Information about employed foreigners;
- Copy of the national passport; and
- Payment of government fee within 10 business days after the receipt of the respective notice.
Based on the provided documents, the competent authority shall, within three business days after the documents acceptance, make a decision on extension or rejection of the work permit.
Extension of a work permit for an intragroup secondee
Intragroup secondment permits are usually issued for a term specified in the relevant employment contract but not more than 3 years. When necessary, the term of such work permit may be extended for twelve months but only once.
A person applying for extension of a work permit shall, at least one month prior to the expiry of the current work permit, file with the competent authority the following documents:
- Application form;
- Information about the performance of the special commitments which had to be performed in the previous and current years;
- HR local content;
- Justification for extension of a work permit;
- Copy of the national passport of the foreign employee; and
- Information about employed foreigners.
Based on the provided documents, the competent authority shall, within five business days after the documents acceptance, make a decision on extension or rejection of the work permit.
